On November 22, the City of Douglas and the 63rd Preservation Society (WWII Flight Training Museum) will dedicate the newly named Cadet Park and the Charles Loring Memorial. The Cadet Park and the Loring Memorial are located on the WWII Flight Training Base across from the WWII Flight Training Museum.
Cadet Park is dedicated to the over 7500 aviation cadets who trained here from 1941-1944. Major Charles J. Loring Jr, Class 1943-B, was the only cadet who trained here to be awarded the Medal of Honor. Loring died on November 22, 1952, in Korea and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions. The memorial features a F-80 Shooting Star like the one he flew in Korea.
