Among the Memorial Day weekend programs currently announced by Trail partners:

- Andersonville National Historic Site will host Memorial Day observances, including the Avenue of Flags display, a Memorial Day Ceremony and Flag Placement on May 23, and participation in Taps Across America at Andersonville National Cemetery.
- The National Infantry Museum will host a Memorial Day Tribute and Paver Dedication Ceremony on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. The free public event will feature keynote speaker COL (Ret.) The ceremony will include the dedication of newly installed pavers along the museum’s Heritage Walk and commemorative ribbon dedications honoring veterans and loved ones.
- The Coastal Georgia Historical Society will host a Memorial Day commemoration on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the World War II Home Front Museum and Historic St. Simons Coast Guard Station on St. Simons Island. Throughout the day, veterans and active-duty military personnel will receive free admission to the museum. The commemoration will include a Field of Flags honoring Glynn County servicemembers who lost their lives in American wars since World War I, as well as Merchant Mariners killed during the April 8, 1942, German U-boat attacks off the Georgia coast. Visitors will also be invited to participate in a Memorial Day poppy craft activity recognizing the enduring symbol of remembrance associated with the holiday.
- The World War II Flight Training Museum is commemorating Memorial Day weekend through a special literary promotion honoring the World War II generation. Throughout the holiday weekend, the museum is promoting the e-book edition of Disgracefully Easy: A B-24 Pilot’s Letters Home, a collection of wartime correspondence from an Army Air Forces pilot, for a special Memorial Day promotional price of $0.99.
The Georgia World War II Heritage Trail is a statewide partnership of museums, historic sites, and educational organizations dedicated to preserving and interpreting Georgia’s significant contributions to the World War II home front and military effort.
Trail partners collectively tell the story of Georgia’s extraordinary role during World War II. Additional Trail partners include the Museum of Aviation, Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame, Thomaston-Upson Archives, Upson Historical Society, St. Marys Submarine Museum, Currahee Military Museum, Camp Toccoa at Currahee, and Commemorative Air Force Airbase Georgia.
“Memorial Day is a solemn reminder that freedom has always carried a cost,” said Ed Coleman, chair of the Georgia World War II Heritage Trail. “Across Georgia, our Trail partners are committed to ensuring that the stories, sacrifices, and service of America’s veterans — especially the World War II generation — continue to be remembered and shared with future generations.”
Visitors are encouraged to check individual museum and historic site websites for complete schedules, admission information, and event updates throughout Memorial Day weekend.
