Families looking for affordable ways to explore Georgia have another reason to discover the Georgia WWII Heritage Trail.
Explore Georgia recently released its “50 Budget-Friendly Georgia Travel Ideas for Families,” reminding travelers that “It doesn’t have to cost a lot of cash to have fun with your family in Georgia. In fact, it doesn’t have to cost anything!”
Among the 50 featured destinations are three Georgia WWII Heritage Trail Partners, each offering visitors an opportunity to experience Georgia’s World War II story while enjoying free admission.
Coming in at No. 27 is the Andersonville National Historic Site and National Prisoner of War Museum, where visitors can learn about the experiences of American prisoners of war from the Revolutionary War through today.
At No. 28, the National Infantry Museum & Soldier Center in Columbus traces the history of the American infantry from colonial times to the present. Visitors can also explore Company Street and experience what life was like for soldiers training at Camp Benning during World War II.
Ranked No. 29, the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins features more than 85 historic U.S. Air Force aircraft along with award-winning exhibits, including Down To Earth: The 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the Air Invasion of Normandy.
The Georgia WWII Heritage Trail congratulates these partners on their statewide recognition. Their inclusion reflects the outstanding museums and historic sites that preserve and share Georgia’s World War II legacy.
These featured destinations are just three of the many experiences waiting to be discovered across the Georgia WWII Heritage Trail. Visitors can explore museums, historic airfields, military training sites, memorials, and communities that tell the story of Georgia’s contributions to victory during World War II.
