The Georgia WWII Heritage Trail is proud to highlight an upcoming public history program at the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force that exemplifies the kind of engaging, accessible interpretation our partner sites provide across the state.
On Saturday, February 7 at 11:00 a.m., historian and author Annette Laing will present her book, Oversexed, Overpaid, and Over Here? Britain Hosts American Servicemen During WWII, as part of the museum’s monthly Author Talk series.
Laing’s program explores what life was like for American service members arriving in wartime Britain—navigating cultural misunderstandings, crowded conditions, and everyday interactions with British civilians, while also forming friendships and reshaping transatlantic perceptions. Blending scholarship with storytelling, the talk offers a lively look at the social history behind the headlines of World War II and the complex human side of the Allied partnership.
Programs like this reflect the Trail’s mission to connect people with meaningful, place-based WWII stories through talks, exhibits, and experiences that bring history to life for today’s audiences.
