The Georgia WWII Heritage Trail is proud to welcome Camp Forrest as its newest Affiliate Partner, expanding the Trail’s growing network of sites dedicated to preserving and sharing the story of World War II in the American South.
Located in Tullahoma, Tennessee, Camp Forrest was one of the largest Army training bases in the United States during World War II. Activated in 1941, the camp trained tens of thousands of soldiers for service overseas and played a vital role in preparing American forces for combat operations across multiple theaters. Its scale and strategic importance made it a cornerstone of the wartime mobilization effort in the Southeast.
“Camp Forrest represents the scale and urgency of America’s wartime mobilization,” said Ed Coleman, Chair of the Georgia WWII Heritage Trail. “By welcoming Camp Forrest as an Affiliate Partner, we are strengthening our ability to tell the full story of how the Southeast prepared a generation for service and sacrifice—and ensuring those stories remain accessible for future generations.”
Camp Forrest now joins a distinguished group of Affiliate Partners, including Roosevelts Little White House, Fort Oglethoroe, and E.L. Greenway Welcome Center and Depot Row, further strengthening the Trail’s ability to connect visitors with the broader regional story of World War II. Together, these sites illustrate how training grounds, communities, and individuals across the region contributed to victory and shaped the legacy of the Greatest Generation.

The Georgia World War II Heritage Trail Affiliate Partner Program extends the Trail’s mission beyond its founding museums to recognize and connect additional sites across the state and region that preserve and interpret World War II history.
From shipyards and airfields to training camps and hometown stories of service and sacrifice, World War II touched every corner of Georgia—and beyond. The Affiliate Partner Program invites museums, historic sites, and community organizations with a clear connection to this shared history to join a growing network committed to preserving and sharing these stories for future generations.
